The Lord Lieutenant presented the Queens Award for Voluntary Service to Westerleigh Judokwai Club on Saturday 31st October at the Royal Victoria Hotel in Saint Leonards-on-sea.
The Lord Lieutenant was joined by both his Deputy Lieutenants, Mrs Deborah Bedford JP and Major General John Moore-Bick CBE who carried out the assessment. Also in attendance were many of the the the club members and their families, along with the High Sherriff of East Sussex, Mrs Juliet Smith, The Mayor of Hastings, Cllr Bruce Dowlings and the Chairman of East Sussex County Council, Mr Colin Belsey. The Lord Lieutenant present the charity with its Award and certificate signed by the HM the Queen.
“The Lord Lieutenant, said: “I was very pleased to have made the presentation to Westerleigh Judokwai Club on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen. The award recognises the integrated work of the club and it’s volunteers in providing support and coaching to a wide range of athletes of all abilities in Judo. The Queen’s Award is a very special award for community service and the highest honour a voluntary organisation can receive. It is equivalent to a group MBE.”
