It was announced today that six new Deputy Lieutenants have been appointed by the Lord Lieutenant for the County of East Sussex. They will assist the Lord Lieutenant, Peter Field, in the execution of his duties in the County on behalf of HM The Queen.
Mr Field said “These are outstanding individuals who have been playing, and continue to play a significant role supporting the local community. I am delighted they have agreed to accept the appointment.”
Those appointed are:
<b>Julian Avery DL
Julian has been Chairman of St Michael’s Hospice in Hastings since 2005 and has been very involved in the local community for many years both as an East Sussex Ambassador for the County Council, and with his involvement with charities such as The Butler Trust and East Sussex Association for the Blind and Partially Sighted. He is a former High Sheriff of East Sussex and now serves as President of the High Sheriffs’ Association of England and Wales.
Geoffrey Bush DL
Geoffrey is the Chairman of the Diageo Foundation and Corporate Citizenship Advisor to Diageo plc. He has devoted his working life to supporting and developing corporate citizenship, community support in Sussex, nationwide and internationally, and helping social entrepreneurs develop their skills. He is a main board director of Tomorrow’s People Trust and on the board of The Pub is the Hub .
Professor Julian Crampton DL
Julian is Vice-Chancellor of University of Brighton and his community involvement in East Sussex include chair of East Sussex’s Economic Development Company (Sea Change Sussex), chairing its counterpart in Hastings and Bexhill (Sea Space), chair of MD Hub the “club” for the highest growth SMEs in Brighton, and Chair of the Royal Pavilion and Museums Foundation. He is passionately involved in education reflected in the fact that he chairs the Hastings Academies Trust, and is on the board of a number of training boards for the NHS.
James May DL
James (Jim) is the chairman of Shoreham Port Authority and is current chairman of Sussex County Cricket Club. Living in Brighton he is keenly interested in giving young people opportunities in education and sport. James is a governor and chair of the Business Committee at the BrightonAldridgeCommunityAcademy as well as a former non executive director of NHS Brighton & Hove.
Colonel M J N (Nick) Richards DL
Following a successful Army career Nick came back to live permanently in Sussex in 1999 and took up an appointment as Regimental Secretary for the Royal Artillery with responsibility for Regimental Charities. Since retirement in 2005 he has remained actively involved in a number of service charities, in particular being the current President of the Eastbourne Combined Ex-Services Association and Vice Chairman of the East Sussex Committee of the ABF – the Soldiers Charity.
Chantal Wilson DL
A former independent town councillor, and Chairman of Wealden District Council Chantal is Chairman of the Crowborough Community Association and a trustee of several Sussex charities such as the Friends of Sussex Hospices, Action in Rural Sussex and the Friends of Crowborough Hospital where she has been a Trustee for over 20 years.
