We can announce today that three new Deputy Lieutenants have been appointed for the County of East Sussex. They will assist the Lord Lieutenant, Peter Field, in the execution of his duties in the County on behalf of HM The Queen. Those appointed are:
Mr Anthony Thomas LAMB
A Colonel in the Army Reserves where he is currently Deputy Corps Colonel for the Royal Corps of Signals, responsible for advising RHQ Royal Signals on Reserves matters. Formally he was Commandant of Sussex Army Cadet Force, Colonel Cadets for 11 Infantry Brigade and HQ SE, Chair of the Sussex Joint Service Cadet Committee and he is currently the SE Regional Representative of the Combined Cadet Force Association. Anthony lives in Eastbourne with his wife Linda, a local solicitor, and their two daughters
A solicitor and has been the Coroner for the City of Brighton & Hove since 1997 and Deputy for East Sussex prior to that for a number of years. She has an ongoing interest in training and remains actively involved in that role with a local hospice, Brighton and Hove Medical School and the Preparation for Practice course; also in training junior doctors . Veronica assisted in setting up the local medical examiner scheme at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Mrs Juliet Anne SMITH JP
A former High Sheriff of East Sussex (2015-2016) and is a magistrate of many years’ standing (currently 26). She was Chairman of the Central Bench (formerly Brighton, Hove and Lewes Bench) from 2005 to 2008 and Chairman of the East Sussex Branch of the Magistrates Association from 2008 – 2011. Her professional life has been in the educational field, ultimately managing and inspecting schools, as well as appointing, appraising and training headteachers. She has been chairman of four schools’ governing bodies.
The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex Peter Field said “I am delighted that Anthony, Veronica and Juliet have been appointed. They have played, and continue to play an important part in the life of our local community and I know their considerable skills and experience will be extremely useful in supporting me in the execution of my duties.”
