Vice Lord Lieutenant

The appointment of East Sussex’s Vice Lord Lieutenant, Sara Stonor DL, of Burwash, was announced in the London Gazette in October 2008.

Mrs Stonor was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in August 2001.

As Vice Lord Lieutenant, she supports the Lord Lieutenant Peter Field and attends many community and civic functions when he is unavailable.

Sara is married to Michael a retired solicitor and they have two children and three grandchildren.

She was the first woman and first lay member of Chichester Cathedral Chapter a post she hold for 15 years.  Sara is now the Vice Lay Chairman of the Diocesan Synod and a member of the Bishop’s Council.

Sara is fortunate to be involved with many organisation and charities in East Sussex.  She is President of the Heathfield Show, Vice President of East Sussex Magistrates, Patron of Girl Guiding Sussex East , Crowborough Hospital Friends  and of the Mother’s Union.

Sara works as a needlepoint teacher and designer.

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh10 June 1921 - 9 April 2021

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

His Royal Highness was born on 10th June 1921 and since their marriage in November 1947 He has been a constant support and companion to Her Majesty The Queen and has touched the hearts of all in East Sussex. His commitment to our Queen and our nation has been total and I am sure you will join with me in sending our sincere condolences to Her Majesty and the whole Royal family on His passing.
